Magpie finds & creative minds: Ghost & Lola
Posted in Fashion / Clothing & Accessories / Fashion blog / Fashionable accessories
Think of all those little treasures, scattered across the world: a stash of emerald-green beads, a sunshine yellow resin flower, the plumes of an exotic bird… With a magpie’s curiosity and a keen imagination, jewellery designer Wendy Powitt travels the world collecting together those little treasures before returning home to re-shape them into more contemporary accessories.
The latest collection from her label, Ghost & Lola, is an eclectic yet ultimately feminine mix of such motifs as soaring birds and blooming flowers. Modelling these limited edition pieces for the collection’s look book is Robyn Lawley, styled with the kind of soft, bouncy waves and flicked-out eyeliner that are the perfect on-trend accompaniments to the feminine accessories.

Drawing from a dream
Posted in Fashion / Fashion blog / Fashion photo shoots / Fashion pictures
How do you describe a dream? Dreams are fragmented, they have no logical sequence and no sense of time. But they can evoke something; they can leave a mood as a lasting impression that inspires you for the rest of the day.
It was a dream that photographer Fenia Labropoulou had that inspired the concept of this shoot, titled, quite aptly, Dreamcatcher.

Go-go to the new Vogue-Vogue?
Posted in Fashion / Fashion blog / Fashion photo shoots / Fashion pictures
Were it not for the punchline at the end that finally furnishes this video with some semblance of a point (the punchline being “Go-go to the new Vogue.fr”) you’d wonder what relevance Wham! could possibly have to a relaunch of the Vogue Paris website. But there it is, a video of Emmanuelle Alt miming to Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go. Telling you to Go-Go to the new Vogue-Vogue.
That being the guise of a purpose, there does seem to be a deeper mission to Alt’s ’80s popstar fantasy. This video wants us to know that Alt is cool in a dorky, approachable kind of way. It wants us to know that she has a personality, albeit it one vastly different to that of her predecessor Carine Roitfeld. It implores us to believe that – look! – she can have fun too.

Gucci’s deco: one style, many ways
Posted in Fashion / Fashion blog / Fashion photo shoots / Fashion pictures
Mariacarla Boscono might be the star with main billing in this shoot for Vogue Italia – in fact the shoot is even titled after her: The Outstanding M.C.B. But the best supporting cast members are surely Gucci’s Art Deco dresses, making their way into almost every shot.
The great thing about Patrick Demarchelier’s editorial is that it shows just how versatile these shining deco dresses are. All it takes to transform them is a little bit of magic with styling, hair and makeup. A micro fringed pixie crop and thick lashes places the Outstanding M.C.B somewhere between Liza Minnelli and Twiggy. A sleek shoulder-length bob keeps it classically ’40s. Full bouffant hair and winged out liner, on the other hand, is decidedly 1960s.
